Motherhood Monday, on Tuesday

Well, motherhood is still amazing, as I expect it to remain for the rest of my life.  Of course, I didn't say it was "easy".  I definitely don't expect motherhood to be easy, nor is it easy now (note: I am babywearing at this very moment, just so I can get a moment to be able to write this post).

This has been a week of growth and development!

More Crafts

Wanna see some more of my Christmas gift crafts?  Well here you go!

I found this idea from a pin on Pinterest (where I get most of my craft ideas, lately).  They were cheap, easy, fun, and turned out really cute.  Next time, I would use some sort of food safe coating, instead of clear spray paint, just to be on the safe side.

Healthy Home: Baby Steps

For our first Healthy Home post, I thought I'd let you know about the simple steps I have taken to reduce exposure for our little man.  Here are two things I did to reduce the chemical exposure in his nursery.

*Mattress:   In research about something else, I accidentally happened upon information about dangers in crib mattresses.  There are regulations requiring them to be fire retardant.  This isn't bad, in itself.  However, add this to the waterproofing and the foam used inside, and we see that there are harmful chemicals in them!  The mattress that he sleeps on for many hours a day.  I didn't like this.

Good news!  They make natural crib mattresses.  They are still fire retardant and waterproof, but this is achieved with natural substances.  OK.  I admit, the mattress was more expensive than your typical crib mattress.  But, it was worth it to me.  Plus, I put it on our registry, and my dad and his wife got it for us.

Check out information on typical crib mattresses here and one brand of natural mattresses here.

This is the mattress we  got.  The great thing is that is it sold through BabiesRUs, so we easily put it on our registry.

*Paint:  Did you know that paint contains VOCs (volatile organic compounds)?    Not only are they harmful to breathe while you are painting, the chemicals continue to leach out for years after the paint dries.  Ridiculous.

Motherhood Monday

Well, my little man is officially a month old.  I can't believe how much he is already changing.  He has gained almost 2 pounds since his 1 week visit and is in the 75th percentile for height.  He must not get his height from me.  :)

He stays awake more, now.  I love watching him look at things and being able to make eye contact with him.  I feel like I can have little conversations with him through our eyes.

I love being a mom!

An Outdoorsy Wreath

OK.  Thought I'd show you another one of my Christmas crafts.  This really isn't
Christmassy, so you could make one anytime.  Spring is coming.  A spring wreath would be nice!

I was pretty proud of this.  I used accents in the recipient's favorite colors and included elements that I thought would match her house, well.

It was quite simple.  I used one coat of paint on the letter, so that it would still look a little "rustic", and just used hot glue to put everything on.   I added the ribbon at the top so that it could hang on a hook rather than a wreath hanger (I'm not a fan of those, myself).

Motherhood Monday

Yes, it's official.  Maternity Monday is now Motherhood Monday.  I have said goodbye to maternity, for now.

Our little man was born after almost 34 hours of labor, 2 hours of pushing, and finally, an unplanned C-Section.  But, it was all worth it!

He's now 3 weeks old and wonderful.  I love being a mother so incredibly much.  It is tiring and demands an incredible amount of time, but it's amazing!  I can't believe I have to go back to work in April.  How am I going to handle not seeing his sweet little face all day?
